about

This is a live gig from Rocky Martin's Borderlands trio 2020 tour, but we played at Indianapolis's Chatterbox under my name with the addition of Kyle Quass on trumpet.

The Chatterbox holds a title as one of Indianapolis's longest running jazz venues, and in 2016, Kyle and I did a gig there with tenor saxophonist Mark Tuttle as Kyle Quass's Special Guests, which led to two studio recordings: "Darkness Made Light" and "Rise Against". Those recordings are for sale on Kyle's Bandcamp page.

Since much of my focus over the past seven years has been to develop a band and compositional concept with my quartet Individuation, plus doing a lot of free improvising, I greatly enjoy the opportunity to shift gears and play concerts that delve into music by great jazz composers and repertoire. It's very useful to recycle and revisit material over different periods to explore it with different personalities and digest the music further.

This three set show combined music from Wayne Shorter, Ornette Coleman, and Andrew Hill (Thelonious Monk was also in the running).
