about

These are excerpts from the studio release, Strange Visitation, released on Watercourse Records.

The (x)tet was a modern jazz quintet/sextet based in Indiana from 2005-2007. Featuring some of the strongest young improvisers in the region, the group began as a house band for a local jam session but evolved into an artistic workshop exploring music by progressive and modern jazz composers, in addition to original music by the band members.

Strange Visitation is a document of the group two years into playing together, and aside from commercial recordings by the Saxophone Cartel and private recordings of the Art Deco Quartet, it reflects my first studio effort as a co-leader with original music prior to 2014's "Individuation" on Destiny Records.

Recorded July 17, 2007 at Farm Fresh Studios in Bloomington, IN by Jake Belser. Released on Watercourse Records in 2009.
