about

This was the George Mel Quartet's third appearance at The Kitano. The ensemble's sound was located between the current Wayne Shorter Quartet and Dave Holland's Overtone Quartet, with ample risk taking and playing from the heart. George's own music and arrangements incorporate odd and mixed meter elements with rich melodies, Brazilian influences, post Shorter harmonic progressions, and grooves from around the world. The tracks here are highlights from two sets, including a fantastic latin odd meter version of Sonny Rollins's "Pent Up House" by Enrique Haneine. All track edits by George Mel.
